FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many performers in Popcorn?
5 piece - female singer, male singer, guitarist/singer, bassplayer/singer and drummer.
I have never booked a band before, what do I do?
Please pick up the phone or email the band’s management as they are very experienced at staging events and are happy to guide you through all aspects of the entertainment side of things, your needs and the band’s needs.
How long do they play for?
This varies as it depends on the schedule for the night, ie how long the event goes for, if there are speeches, other acts, sit down dinners etc, but we can play up to 4 sets of 45 minutes if needed. Most gigs are either 3 x 45 minutes, or 2 x 1 hour sets.
What type of music do they play?
A wide range of well known pop songs form the 1960s to current, guaranteed to please any type of audience. A list of working songs is given HERE.
Can I request songs not on the songlist?
We are happy to consider learning a favourite song or two of yours, provided we get plenty of notice.
I need some live music at my ceremony?
Popcorn can and has performed as a 2 or 3 piece at ceremonies like wedding services, christenings, presentations and awards ceremonies etc. The format is flexible but we think the female singer and male singer/piano player works best. Plus we can learn songs that are special to you. Then have the full band play later at the dinner function ties in well.
What happens in between sets? Do I need a DJ?
We can run our big collection of taped music through our PA system before during and after the band plays, which means you don’t have to pay for a DJ. Feel free to bring your iPod of your favourite songs and we’ll plug it in!
What sort of gigs do you play?
Popcorn can play any type of event, for any type of audience, anywhere in the world. This includes casinos, pubs and clubs, RSLs, weddings, birthday parties (at homes or at function rooms), fairs, fetes, awards nights, sporting events, zoos, outdoor festivals, theme parks and resorts, absolutely anywhere! Popcorn can play in very small spaces, at large reception venues or at large open air events.
Do I really need a band?
YES! In our opinion there is nothing like a real band and real people performing, doing their best to entertain and interact with the audience. A band has a personal touch that other options can’t provide. Plus it keeps musicians working.
We LOVE the idea of Popcorn but it may be loud and take up too much room for my event?
Popcorn can and in the past have easily adapted to small band spaces for the smaller or more intimate functions. We totally get that a lot of people are turned off by loud bands and the unavoidably large sound of acoustic drums and cymbals so for these types of gigs we use a pro electronic drumkit, which takes up a small space and it’s level is totally determined by a volume knob! So you get a great sound at a low level. Many people have booked the band on this basis and it has worked wonders. Plus it gets a very interested reaction from punters who have neither seen or heard one before and can’t believe how good it sounds.
Does the band have their own PA and lights or do we have to supply that?
Yes we have our own PA and lights that can cater for most functions. We can hire extra gear if needed for larger gigs.
