Swing Masters is a jazz ensemble that provides a smooth, sophisticated ambience
for any occasion. We play in many formats - anything from a duo through to a
quintet - and move easily into dance mode when required. As the name
suggests, we draw inspiration from the swing era, inspired by great singers like
Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat Cole and MelTorme, along with the great
songwriters like Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael,
Duke Ellington and many others. Other areas of significant influence include
Latin music (greatly inspired by Antonio Carlos Jobim), blues and funk tunes, and
a few waltzes and novelty tunes.
As a duo, they work with
Barney Thomas as guitarist
and Clinton Fry on both
tenor and alto saxophones.
Barney and Clinton have
been working together
professionally now for over
15 years, during which time
they have developed a great
sensitivity to each other, and
provide a remarkably
complete sound from just two players.
Swing Masters formed in 1988. We have pertormed in a multitude ot
venues including: Wlndeor Hotel, Hotel Sofitel, Stamford Plaza Hotel,
Hilton Hotel, Idt. Buller Chalet Hotel, Sheraton Hotel, Melbourne
Aquarium, Montsalvat, The Melbourne Club, Melbourne Museum, World
